December 1996 Upper North Island Ex-tropical Cyclone Fergus
The remains of Cyclone Fergus brought heavy rain, flooding, landslips, high winds and high seas to the North Island from Northland to Gisborne, mainly affecting Northland and Coromandel. The storm caused significant damage and a CDE was declared for parts of the Waikato. A man was drowned in Northland and one person died in Thames.
January 1994 South Island Flooding
Heavy rain and flooding occurred in parts of the West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland. Civil Defence Emergencies were declared for Mount Cook, Alexandra and Te Anau. Roads were damaged, and thousands of stock were drowned in Otago.
January 1986 Nelson Flooding
Heavy rain brought severe flooding and slips to the Nelson area. A Civil Defence Emergency was declared for the region, and properties and roads were damaged. A boy was drowned in a Nelson stream.
February 1985 Auckland and Waikato Flooding
Heavy rain caused flooding and landslides in Auckland and Waikato. A Civil Defence Emergency was declared for Thames Borough and Thames Valley Region. Severe damage was done in Te Aroha and the Thames area. Three people were killed and one injured when a torrent of debris overwhelmed a house in Te Aroha, and and a woman was drowned at Waiomu.

Heavy rain caused severe flooding especially in Marlborough and Golden Bay.
April 1982 North Island Ex-tropical Cyclone Bernie
Ex-tropical Cyclone Bernie brought high winds to parts of the North Island, which caused a lot of damage in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. A man was killed by a falling tree in Gisborne and a person was drowned in a flooded Bay of Plenty river. A person was also injured by a falling tree in Thames.
April 1981 Waikato Storm
Torrential rain and high winds struck the Thames-Coromandel area and inland to Paeroa. Paeroa and Thames suffered considerable flooding and over 2000 people were evacuated during the event. Half the town of Waikino was completely destroyed when Ohinemuri River flooded. A Civil Defence emergency was declared in the Paeroa Borough and Ohinemuri County and the Thames-Coromandel area.
June-July 1979 Upper North Island Flooding
Heavy rain brought flooding and slips to Northland and Auckland. A boy was killed in Northland when his car plunged into a flooded river, and an Auckland woman was injured by a piece of floating debris. A 42 year old man drowned after his boat capsized in heavy seas near Whangarei.
October 1978 Southland and Otago Flooding
Heavy rain brought severe flooding to Southland and large floods in parts of Otago. People were evacuated and thousands of stock were drowned. There were also high winds in Canterbury and thudnerstorms around Queenstown.

A storm brought high winds, flooding and high seas to Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Manawatu-Wanganui. A man was drowned in the sea in Northland. High winds and seas caused significant property damage in the eastern Waikato.

Heavy rain, flooding, slips, high winds and lightning were experienced in Taranaki and Manawatu-Wanganui. A state of emergency was delcared for Feilding. Two children also drowned in a flooded creek in Auckland.

A Civil Defence emergency was declared in Hastings and Havelock North after heavy rain caused flooding. 100 people were evacuated from Hastings and another 100 from Haumoana.

April 1968 New Zealand Ex-tropical Cyclone Giselle
Ex-tropical Cyclone Giselle affected every region in New Zealand, with high winds, heavy rain, flooding, landslips and high seas. The interislander 'Wahine' sunk in Wellington Harbour during the storm, with the loss of 51 lives. Other casualties: one in Northland, two in Wellington due to high winds: a man who went missing on Stewart Island. Weather-related injuries were reported in Waikato, Manawatu-Wanganui and Wellington.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Dinah brought heavy rain, flooding and high winds to most regions of the North Island. There was also a hail storm in the Nelson area. A man was missing and presumed drowned in Rotorua.

Floods, blizzards and high winds wreaked havoc throughout the North Island. A man was killed in Otorohanga after he was hit by a falling branch.
May 1966 New Zealand Storm
A depression brought heavy rain, high winds, high seas, lightning and flooding to parts of Northland, Wellington, Marlborough and Canterbury. Flooding in Marlborough caused evacuations. In Northland, 29 people drowned in a shipwreck in high seas.

A tropical cyclone moved over the North Island on the 11th causing heavy rain and high winds. Further rain on the 13th caused severe flooding in the Bay of Plenty and other regions. There was one casualty in Manawatu-Wanganui due to high winds.

A tropical cyclone caused high winds and heavy rain in the upper North Island. There were power cuts and road closures. A farmer was drowned at Whananaki and three Cape Brett fishermen went missing, believed drowned.
