Heavy rain, flooding, high winds and high seas were experienced throughout much of New Zealand. There was extensive flooding in Canterbury and Otago. 37 casualties were reported during the event.
February 1866 Tasman-Nelson Flooding
Heavy rainc caused the Waimea, Wairoa and Maitai Rivers to flood. Water entered houses in Nelson.
December 1857 Tasman-Nelson Flooding
Heavy rain caused flooding in Tasman-Nelson. One man lost his life attemptig to cross the Maitai River and there was damage caused by flooding along Slate River.
