Heavy rain caused flooding in Tasman-Nelson. One man lost his life attemptig to cross the Maitai River and there was damage caused by flooding along Slate River.
The rain commenced the evening of the 29th and continued until morning on the 31st.
On the 30th the Maitai River was so swollen that it over ran its banks and was threatening to flood houses in Nelson.
Houses were completely surrounded by water and people unable to reach their homes.
Bridges were washed away and roads were partially destroyed.
A man attempted to cross Maitai River, which was swollen due to heavy rain, and lost his life.
