Heavy rain and high winds battered the lower North Island for four days causing high stock losses in Hawke's Bay and landslides in the Wellington area.

EvacueesThree houses in Castle Crescent, Stokes Valley, were evacuated early on the 16th when the hillside behind them began to slip. The bank behind one of the properties, near the entrance to Stokes Valley, slumped badly, leaving tonnes of debris piled against rear walls. A house was pushed off its piles by the landslide. Occupants of one of the houses were allowed to return mid-morning.
