Comments:

CauseOn the 1st, an occluded front moved south-east on to northern New Zealand. Moist unstable air along the front where low level convergence was taking place brought heavy rain. The front moved slowly across the Auckland region overnight on the 1st/2nd.

ImpactThe torrential rain caused Opanuku Stream at the eastern foot of the Waitakere Ranges to suddenly flood and burst its banks, inundating 40 houses on Henderson Valley Road.

Evacuees20 houses were evacuated at Henderson due to the flooding.

Property DamageThe flood waters soaked homes, flattened fences and ruined appliances.

CommentIt was described as the "worst flood to hit the area in over 30 years".
