There were thunderstorms in Taranaki on the 22nd May 2002.
A bolt of forked lightning set a house on fire on the 22nd.
The strike was one of hundreds that hit the province during more than 24 hours of electrical storms.
Power was cut and computers, tvs and other appliances were fried.
Trees were badly split by lightning.
Heavy Rain
Heavy rain lashed the district.
Tornado
Tornadoes in Inglewood and Bell Block caused widespread damage.
