North-east gales, heavy rain and flooding caused disruption and damage in Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

Comments:

CauseOn the 22nd, a broad trough covering the Tasman Sea, with its parent low centred well to the west of Fiordland, drifted eastward toward New Zealand. A frontal zone associated with the trough moved eastward over the North Island, and its bands of heavy rain and gales crossed progressively over Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
