At 1pm on the 22nd, firefighters were kept busy after windows broke in the central city, signs and corrugated iron were torn off buildings.
A 12 m high eucalyptus tree crashed onto the deck of a house in Maupuia. The resident said it was the worst wind she had experienced in 10 years.
22 domestic flights in and out of the capital were cancelled and nine were diverted. The changes affected 1000 passengers who were switched to other flights.
