ImpactThere was severe flooding in the Whangarei/Hikurangi area. Stormwaters engulfed Whangarei homes and businesses.

ImpactThe central business area was barricaded off and evacuated and shops were advised to close their doors mid-afternoon due to the flood waters.

Affected LifelineWhangarei's sewerage system collapsed, leaving effluent flowing through a tleast 10 houses and two central city businesses.

ImpactTwenty houses were flooded.

DamageYachts in the Whangarei marina were damaged.

ImpactKamo Intermediate was forced to close on the 30th as flood waters forced sewage to flow onto school grounds. Whau Valley school was also clsoed.

CommentRivers burst their banks.

CommentIt was the biggest event since Cyclone Bola in March 1988.
