New Plymouth recorded 109 mm (10.9 cm) of rain in 24 hours.
Flooding
One of worst floods in New Plymouth since 1961 occurred on the 1st March 1969.
Floodwaters from Mangaotuku Stream invaded houses on Weymouth, Gaine and Aubrey Streets.
On Lorna Street there were 10 properties flooded.
On Devon and Brougham Streets shops were invaded and there was damage to stock.
Huatoki Stream broke banks below Vivian Street bridge.
