High winds and seas were experienced in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Canterbury, and caused some damage. Some homes in Hawke's bay were evacuated and damaged by high seas. Two people drowned in Manukau Harbour and another person drowned at the Waimakariri River mouth in Canterbury.

There were about 2300 delayed passengers waiting to cross on the 2nd. The Awatere sailed on the 2nd but was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. The Lynx resumed sailing at 5:30pm on the 2nd.
