Cook Strait ferry crossings were cancelled from the 1st to the 3rd due to large swells and strong windy conditions. There were about 2300 delayed passengers waiting to cross on the 2nd. The Awatere sailed on the 2nd but was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. The Lynx resumed sailing at 5:30pm on the 2nd.
Roads were closed at Paremata Inlet.
A heavy swell closed State Highway 1 on the Kaikoura coast.
