Southeast gales for central New Zealand. A front is expected to move over the upper North Island tonight, bringing brief heavy northeasterly rain to northern areas. A complex low is then forecast to move onto the North Island on Sunday bringing the risk of heavy easterly rain to eastern regions of the North Island and upper South Island. The low also brings southeast gales to central New Zealand.

Heavy rain and southeast gales for parts of central New Zealand A deep low over the North Island tonight (Sunday) moves slowly away to the east during Monday, directing strong to gale southeasterlies across central and northern New Zealand. This low is also bringing heavy rain to some eastern regions from North Canterbury to Hawkes Bay.

A low east of Gisborne moves away to the east on Tuesday morning. Heavy rain in northern Hawkes Bay and the south of Gisborne should ease during Tuesday morning,and southerly gales about eastern parts of the North Island also ease. Note, watches and warnings for central areas from Taranaki to Marlborough are now lifted.

A low east of the North Island is moving away. Rain in northern Hawkes Bay and the south of Gisborne is easing, and the warning has been lifted. A watch remains in for severe southerly gales in eastern Bay of Plenty.

The area was under a Civil Defence Emergency.

Numerous roads have been washed away, including a bridge in Waipiro Bay.
