A complex low pressure system crossing northern and central areas during this period brought stormy weather to many areas. Flooding affected several areas, especially in the East Cape region.

Southeast gales for central New Zealand. A front is expected to move over the upper North Island tonight, bringing brief heavy northeasterly rain to northern areas. A complex low is then forecast to move onto the North Island on Sunday bringing the risk of heavy easterly rain to eastern regions of the North Island and upper South Island. The low also brings southeast gales to central New Zealand.

EvacueesFamilies evacuated themselves in some areas where houses were completely flooded.

CommentState Highway 35 was closed because of severe flooding, but reopened north and south of Tokomaru Bay.

DamageThe flooding at Hatea-a-Rangi School forced it to close, after being almost completely destroyed.
