ImpactIt was the most widespread and prolonged surface flooding of low lying areas the Hauraki Plains had experienced for many years.

CommentFlood discharges were not particularly high.

CauseFlooding was due mainly to sustained high river levels causing a complete lack of gravity drainage in some areas and very limited drainage in others.

AreaThe area inundated, excluding Piako River ponding area, was approximately 27,000 acres (10927 ha).

ImpactSome 17,000 acres (6880 ha) were under water for up to 4 days, the remainder was flooded for over 4 days and in some areas for over 10 days.

Total DamageThe overall cost of the two floods (which occurred in June-July and Sept) was estimated at well over 1/4 million pounds ($9,991,000 2010 dollars).
