July 1892 Waikato and Manawatu-Wanganui Flooding

There was flooding in the Otorohanga area of Waikato and in the Ohura River.

Waikato
There are heavy floods in the Otorohanga and Upper Waikato districts on the 22nd.
Much damage was done especially to the Porotarao tunnel, the floor of which was four feet (1.22 m) under water. The retaining wall at the north end collapsed.
Much damage was done to roads and public works in the King Country.
The hills which are papa rock slipped and covered roads with earth, trees and debris.

The Waipa river flooded the township of Otorohanga.

Ohura River
The Ohura river rose 16 ft (4.9 m) in nine hours.
The Ohura road on which £500 ($89,000 2010 dollars) had just been expended was pretty well destroyed by the Ohura River.
The approaches to culverts and bridges were all destroyed.
