CommentHeavy rain fell in Pipiwai on the night of the 10th.

Physical CharacteristicThe Te Horo School gauge recorded 2 in (5.1 cm) of rain in 24 hours.

CommentThe Hikurangi River had only risen slightly the next morning and was practicaly back to normal in a few hours.

CommentThere was an electrical storm in Ruatangata West on the night of the 10th.

Property DamageA flash of lightning came into contact with a length of private telephone wire leading from a homestead. For 10 chains (200 m) the line was destroyed, the front of the house was scorched and blackened and every window shattered.

CasualtiesTwo men died while tramping in Harman Pass. On the afternoon of the 10th three trampers walked into a blizzard near the summit of Harman Pass. There was sleet and snow, driven by a raging wind, and poor visibility. They became separated, and two died, the cause of death found to be exposure, following exhaustion, in a storm. The storm abated on the night of the 11th.
