There was heavy rain on the 22nd of January in the Takaka area.
Flooding
There were serious floods causing extensive damage in the district.
Takaka River broke its banks flooding large areas of low-lying land.
Severe flooding occurred in town and many houses were invaded by floodwaters.
Damage to farms were very extensive and many miles of fencing was destroyed.
Flood was reported to be the worst in the district for 40 years.
There was a considerable volume of water on Main Street.
Telephone poles were broken.
