Heavy rain was experienced in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast, bringing flooding to some areas. In Taranaki, a man drowned in the flooded Waiwhakaiho River. A man also drowned in Nelson when his car plunged into a swollen river. Homes were flooded in Wanaka.

A 30-year-old man drowned on the 1st while attempting to 'tube' down the swollen Waiwhakaiho River.
The Waiwhakaiho River was at its peak in the middle of the day on the 1st, when a flash flood passed through.
The Waiwhakaiho River rose dramatically, rising 2.8 m.

Wanaka recorded 25 mm (2.5 cm) of rain in 30 minutes on the 30th.

There were flash floods in the Wanaka region after the town's storm water system was overloaded.
Flood waters entered several homes and businesses.
Streets were flooded and some roads were closed.
The flood was said to be as bad as the 1999 flood.

Fiordland recorded 60 mm (6.0 cm) of rain in 24 hous on the 1st.
