The exceptionally heavy thunderstorm brought severe flooding to the city and disrupted power supplies.

CommentThe rainfall was heavy on the coastal belt and around the foothills.

Affected LifelinePower supplies were disrupted. The mainly affected areas were Makaraka and Russell Street which feeds part of Kaiti, and the back of Ormond Road. Rural areas that were affected by power cuts were Turihau, Kanakanaia and Kings Road and Te Wera.

Affected LifelineStreets were flooded.

ImpactWater entered shops which included the Royal Hotel, Mayfair Caterers, the Young Image Amusement Centre, Ted Hardy Insurance and Laskey Carpets. Floorboards were soaked and the carpets had to be lifted and dried.
