There was very heavy rain in Tasman-Nelson which resulted in flooding and numerous slips in the region.

CauseAn active front, preceded by a strong and very humid northeasterly flow, moved very slowly eastwards across New Zealand, resulting in very heavy rainfall in the Tasman-Nelson region.

Declared EmergencyA state of emergency was declared on 14 December, and the National Crisis Management Centre at Parliament was activated. The state of emergency is likely to last through Christmas, so that the red-stickering on properties will still be in effect.
