A tornado caused property damage and injured three people in Howick.

A cold front, with the tornadoes caused by atmospheric conditions normally responsible for producing thunder, hail and lightning.

A tornado struck Howick at 4:30pm on the 25th.
Over 30 houses were hit by the violent storm, six of them seriously damaged. Large holes were punched in walls, large windows were smashed, and huge pine and pohutakawa trees crashed to the ground.
Three people were injured. One man was taken to hospital with serious chest injuries after falling from a ladder.
Winds were recorded at 67 km/hr, gusting to 80 km/hr.
The worst affected streets were Granger Road , Rangitoto View Road and Island View Road.
