Heavy rain caused flooding in the Heretaunga Plains.
A deep depression moving eastwards over the northern North Island produced northeasterly winds which caused heavy rain in catchments exposed to storms from that direction.
The heaviest rain fell along the coastal plains area and overtaxed some drainage systems. Central and southern areas received steady rainfall (40mm several gauges in Heretaunga Plains, 40-80mm in ranges )
Major rivers were in moderate fresh.
Heretaunga Plains flooded. Ponding occurred in a number of localities especially at pumping stations.
There was widespread slips, flooding and failing sewerage systems.
The heaviest rainfall was in the Awatoto area where 120 mm (12.0 cm) of rain was recorded in four hours.
Esk River was 2.1 metres at the Waipunga Road bridge
There was significant ponding on the Landcorp Farm and other properties in the Bay View area.
Major debris blocks occurred at the State Highway 2 bridge and the Hastings sewer crossing.
Hastings district urban stormwater was completely overwhelmed in the area around Havelock Road.
The packing shed at Appledore Orchard was flooded for a time.
Lower Tukituki River had damage to the bank protection works on the left bank downstream of River Road.
There was some bank erosion in the stream channel downstream from the Mangarau and Herehere Dams as a result of sustained high flows.
Karamu Stream rose to its highest level for several years.
Lake Poukawa rose in flood and the outflow exceeded two cumecs.
Napier had near record rain.
Napier recorded 79.2 mm (7.92 cm) of rain. 79.2mm
The storm followed the wettest July in Napier for 82 years and a continually wet early August. The ground conditions were at field capacity at the beginning of this event.
Maraetotara River flooded Clifton Road at the Te Awanga bridge.
Puhokio Stream sustained a large flood and some bank erosion occurred.
Major bank erosion and bed degradation occurred on the Waingongoro Stream. It threatened one house and parts of the stopbank.
Waipukurau recorded 50 mm (5.0 cm) of rain.
Wanstead Swamp to Hurunui Road was closed. Flooding affected the State Highway.
Dannevirke recorded 31.7 mm (3.17 cm) of rain. 31.7mm
