The Waikato River was heavily in flood on the 2nd to the 9th of August 1893, as high as during the January flood.
Heavy damage has been done to the roads and drains all over the district.
Creeks were flooded and bridges were reported to be damaged.
Railway traffic was interrupted and the trains for Auckland could get only to Mercer.
The railway line from Pokeno to Mercer is partly underwater.
The damage caused the Waikato railway by the floods was repaired at a cost of under £300 ($52,200 2010 dollars). The loss by the temporary stoppage of traffic was about £1000 ($174,000 2010 dollars).
Altogether such a misfortune had not happened since the 1875 flood.
