A West Coast man was struck by lightning and four people were injured by an avalanche in Otago.
February 2004 South Island High Winds
High winds caused road closures and power cuts to areas in Otago. The high winds lead to the spread of a forest fire which damaged pine plantations and lead to evacuations of residents near Saddle Hill.
November 2003 South Island and Wellington High Winds
Severe winds hit Cantebury, Otago and Wellington on the 7th but died out overnight. There were delays to flights and power outages due to trees falling on power lines.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Drena brought high winds and high seas to the upper North Island, which caused damage to property. A CDE was in place for Thames-Coromandel. There were also high seas in Taranaki and Tasman-Nelson, and there was flooding in Canterbury, Otago and Southland. In Auckland, a man was killed by fallen powerlines and there were weather-related road fatalities. Three people were killed at Thames.
