The average wind speed was between 55 and 60 knots (102-111 km/hr).
There were scrub fires in several areas.
The road linking the hill suburbs with Taieri Plain had to be closed due to falling trees.
Trees were blown down by the severe wind.
No lives were lost due to the high winds.
The wind damage was mostly confined to roofs and fences and windows were blown in.
Dunedin City had a power blackout at 8.40 caused by a transmission line fault.
