High winds and heavy rain were experienced in various parts of the country, with damage reported from Auckland to Dunedin. Winds caused injuries to a man in Auckland, a woman in Wellington and other people in cars, which trees fell on.

A depression and associated warm front proceeded to move across New Zealand on the 18th. The peak in wind strength coincided with the depression crossing Southland on the 19th, when the pressure gradient across central areas reached a maximum.

A wind storm caused widespread disruption throughout the country.
Damage from gale force winds was reported from Auckland to Dunedin.
Trees were blown over onto cars with passengers, causing injuries.
Flights were cancelled.
Power and phone lines were downed.
Roofing iron was lifted by the winds.
Boats were blown off their moorings.
