High rainfall and flooding occurred in parts of the West Coast, Otago and Southland. The West Coast had record rainfalls.
The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Rewa. A front moved only very slowly over Fiordland, blocked by a high to the east of the country. A southerly spread up the east coast later in the event, bringing widespread rain to eastern areas.
In Westland, Fiordland and the Southern Lakes, slips and flooding occurred on the 21st, and roads and bridges were washed out.

Colliers Creek recorded 682 mm (68.2 cm) of rain in 24 hours on the 21st/22nd. This was a new New Zealand rainfall record for a 24-hour fall. The Return Period is well over 150 years (HIRDS1 gives about 100 years).
